| Summary | 0001411: The STB can't boot when the user remove the power cable during firmware upgrade. | ||||
| Description | The STB can't boot when the user remove the power cable during firmware upgrade. You can reproduce easily and you can see the following console message. init cpupll 800MHz init mempll 2400MHz init 3GB DDR, lib version r63074 .............. .............. | Steps To Reproduce | 1. Prepare the STB as 19.531.18 user build and check the STB boot up successfully 2. Copy the 19.531.20 upgrade image to the USB stick 3. Connect the USB stick and power off the STB 4. Keep pressing "Volume down" and "Channel down" at the front panel and power on the STB 5. STB start the USB upgrade 6. First progress screen is for copying upgrade image from USB Stick to STB storage 7. Second progress screen is updating EMMC partition 8. Remove the power cable when the second progress is 34% 9. Power on the STB and the STB will reboot repeatedly | ||||

Dear Jacky, The STB reboot repeatedly due to "dm-verity device corrupted". Please modify the STB go to recovery mode when the STB try to reboot due to "dm-verity device corrupted". The cache partition is remained so the STB is going to upgrade process again. Could you please check it? |
Hi Sangmin, We will try to reproduce this issue first, so do you mean it can't enter recovery mode if you do keep pressing "Volume down" and "Channel down" at the front panel and power on the STB when this issue happened ? |
Hi, Jacky, No, you can enter the recovery mode using hidden key after this issue was happened. But, the user can't use this way and they never want their STB keep unusable any moment. So, SKB want to repeat upgrade process when this issue happened. |

Hi, Bcan, Can I know current status of this job? SKB manager wants to know this job was done or not. If it was not complete, please let me know the schedule to complete. Thank you. |
Hi Sangmin, We need to check if we can detect this situation and go to recovery mode first. Due date: 12/30 |
Hi, Bcan, Thank you for update. FYI, other vendors who uses same chipset already fixed it, so I guess you can detect this situation. SKB Jira : https://jira.skbroadband.com/browse/BTVD-18589 Thank you. |
Hi, Bcan, Could you please update current status? Thank you. |
Hi Sangmin, We need more time to fix this problem. In AI2MAX, there is no "dm-verity device corrupted" message showed. Instead, it shows ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- EXT4-fs (dm-2): VFS: Can't find ext4 filesystem fts: failed to open /dev/block/by-name/fts Failed to open fts device. ---------------------------------------f------------------------------------------- It looks like that fts device can't be mounted successfully. In order to restart to recovery mode, it need to set bootmode as recovery. However, the function set_bootmode writes data into fts device. Because fts device can't be mounted, it fails to do set_bootmode. |
Dear Bcan, As I attached the log message, "dm-verity device corrupted" issue is easy to reproduce. Could you please check it more? Did you use correct firmware version when you test it? This issue will be reproduced when you upgrade the firmware from 19.531.18 to 19.531.20. Thank you. |
Hi Sangmin, I tested this issue with 532r17 SD build. By testing with 532r17 SU build, it shows "dm-verity device corrupted" message. I will check this issue again and thanks for your reminding. |
Hi, Bcan, Thank you for update. I'm sorry to push you but the due date was 12/30. SKB manager will ask us in a few days. I think this issue should be fixed in this week, of course, without any side effect. Please understand our circumstance. Thank you and happy new year. |

Hi, Bcan, Could you please update current status? Thank you. |

Hi Sangmin, The workaround for powering off during OTA is already committed. Please check it. |

Hi, Bcan, Request #1 There was a daily build image which is included your modifications.(20220111 daily build) But, I can't test using same image because there is no error when I plug out during upgrade. So, could you please send me an upgrade image? Please do the clean build for upgrade test. Request #2 I have no image to test, so I tested like followings. STB(19.532.10) -> Upgrade to "20220111 daily build" and plug out when the upgrade progress is 34% STB(20220111 daily build) -> Upgrade to 19.532.10 and plug out when the upgrade progress is 34% I can see the following error messages and the STB enter to the fastboot mode. Hi Sangmin, 1. This workaround is only workable in SU build for end users. 2. For SD build, it would reboot repeatedly before and it will go to fastboot mode now. Due to SD build is only available for engineers and QA. It is suggested to press vol- and channel- to go to recovery mode and recover the device. 3. Please find image here. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/19auum7keW_TNeC2H-yMcfuCgnvDRtKGl?usp=sharing You can test in this way: STB(20220111_SU_v532r17_ota1) -> Upgrade to "20220111 daily build" and plug out when the upgrade progress is 34% |
